MB Speedway opens in support of bike week events

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The annual motorcycle rallies that call Myrtle Beach home are getting new support, from business owners that hope the bikers will keep coming back.

This new perspective on bike week - the positive support - is coming from the Myrtle Beach Speedway and a handful of other businesses that hope an investment will make bike week more popular and increase attendance.

Victim claims frying pan attackers emerged from shadows

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Police are searching for answers after a man claims he was attacked by two people lurking in the darkness of his living room when he came home.

This aggravated assault was reported just minutes before midnight Thursday on the 5600 block of North Kings Highway. The victim told Myrtle Beach Police his front door was unlocked when he returned home and the light in his living room wouldn't turn on.

Myrtle Beach Film Festival kicks off Wednesday

MYRTLE BEACH - The Eighth Annual Myrtle Beach International Film Festival starts Wednesday at Carmike Cinema at Broadway at the Beach.

Filmmakers from around the world are showcasing their work during the festival, which runs until Saturday evening. Tickets are available at the box office.

The Myrtle Beach International Film Festival has been named one of the top 50 film festivals in the world by Movie Maker Magazine.

Festival director, Jerry Dalton, created this event years ago with the goal in mind to build the film industry along the Grand Strand.

The Fresh Market gives Grand Strand shoppers more options

Myrtle Beach (WMBF) - The Northwood Plaza Shopping Center will be the newest location for The Fresh Market, which is expanding in South Carolina.

There is a chain head over in Pawley's Island, where the store has been in place since June 2011. Founded in 1982, it's a specialty grocery chain that says they offer high quality food and outstanding customer service. The company told WMBF News they chose the new location because the market is prime for it.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A brand new attraction coming to the beach will have riders  flying high. Myrtle Beach Jet Pack Adventures is getting ready to launch, and it will be a first for the Grand Strand.

It's been called the world's most advanced water-propelled jet pack. Jetlev is one of the companies that makes commercial jet packs like the one that will be used at Myrtle Beach Jet Pack Adventures. The Jetlev works is by using water pressure to propel riders into the sky.

MB Chamber of Commerce working to bring Ford Ironman Triathlon to city

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce is working to present a bid to organizers of the Ford Ironman Triathlon that would bring the event to Myrtle Beach.

The official bid is due to Ford Ironman organizers by the end of the week, and Myrtle Beach is competing with bids from Asheville, Charlotte, Charleston and Atlanta. If selected, the triathlon, which would be held toward the end of September, could be the biggest sports-tourism event put on in the area.

The Fresh Market to open a store in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The popular grocery store chain The Fresh Market plans to open the doors of a new location in Myrtle Beach.

A press release from The Fresh Market outlined the Northwood
Plaza Shopping Center, at 7751 N. Kings Highway as the site of the new store,
making it South Carolina's seventh store from the chain.
