15 arrested after DEU shuts down 'crack house' in Myrtle Beach

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A two-month long investigation into the sale of illicit drugs has landed multiple people behind bars.

"We received complaints from the city of Myrtle Beach about the location on Blue Street with heavy narcotic sales - basically operating as a street-level crack house," Dean Bishop, Deputy Commander with the 15th Circuit Drug Enforcement Unit said.

Myrtle Beach man claims $200,000 lottery prize

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A $10 investment in the South Carolina Education Lottery is paying off for one Myrtle Beach man who just won $200,000.

He bet the one in 600,000 odds for the scratch off Lucky Diamond lottery ticket purchased at a gas station on Highway 544.

"I was stressed out about a lot of things, when I had a notion to buy the ticket," he said.

"I just went for it," he explained. "I wasn't expecting it, and when it happened I was blown away."

His wife jumped up and down when he told her. "I feel like I got a pay raise," he said.

Myrtle Beach mother arrested for unlawful neglect

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The Myrtle Beach Police Department arrested a woman with two children on Wednesday after she stated she smoked crack earlier in the day, according to a police report.

The report says Rebecca Mae Killian, 29, was still intoxicated and with her two children, ages two-years-old and seven-months-old, when police spoke to her. There was a large rash on the side of the seven-month-old, which Killian failed to notice of or seek medical attention for.

Man arrested for attacking woman outside of library

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A dispute turned violent in Myrtle
Beach on Wednesday, when a 20-year-old male was arrested for attacking a female
outside of Chapin Library.

A police report states the officer arrived at the scene and
met with the offender, Roger Brown, who stated he was trying to get his phone
from the victim's purse when she sprayed him with pepper spray. The victim stated
that Brown was trying to take her purse from her when she sprayed him. She said
that he then grabbed both of her arms, and she sprayed him again.

Counselors fear increase in sexual assaults as tourist season begins

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – As spring hits the Grand Strand, one group says they're approaching the season with a sense of alarm. Sexual assault counselors in the city say they see spikes in crisis calls as soon as larger crowds come to town.

"Our numbers here at the center tend to increase dramatically in April once Spring Break starts," said Rape Crisis Center Counselor Jacquie Campman.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – In light of the Boston Marathon bombings, the City of Myrtle Beach is taking a look at what can be done when it comes to its own event security.

Myrtle Beach hosts around 600 special events and festivals throughout the year. Each event warrants extra security, as well as a plan that has to be approved by police. But the City of Myrtle Beach wants to see what more can be done to protect its citizens and workers.

Cold and rain to blame for slow hotel growth in 2013

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The clock is ticking closer the unofficial start to the summer tourism season. But, even during the cooler months, some travelers chose Myrtle Beach to spend their late winter and early spring vacations.  

A brand new study shows occupancy in Myrtle Beach hotels is up, but not by much. The good news: vacationers still came to the Grand Strand, despite the colder and wetter weather in the Grand Strand so far in 2013. The bad news: experts didn't see the growth they expected.
