Biker businesses predict resurgent rally

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – With just a few days left before the 2013 Bike Rally, bike-related businesses say they are anticipating one of the best rallies they've seen in the Grand Strand in years.

"We've got a full staff working," said SBB General Manager Bill Barber. "We literally had to put Four Corners back together because we tore it down after we sold it."

Myrtle Beach: As Grand Park opens, city reveals more big plans

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Grand Park is finally opening Tuesday, after five years and $22 million. 

The park now has several multi-purpose fields, youth fields, batting cages and a roller rink. The city has been booking events and tournaments in anticipation of its opening, and now they say they'll really be able to cash in on anyone wanting to play on the grounds.

The completion of Grand Park is just the beginning of what the City of Myrtle Beach wants to accomplish for the area.

Mark Lazarus takes office as Horry Co. Council Chair

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Newly elected Horry County Council Chairman Mark Lazarus will be sworn into office on Tuesday, May 7.

The swearing-in ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. in Horry County Council Chambers, located on the second floor of the Horry County Government and Justice Center in Conway.

The event is open to the public with a reception to follow.

Police investigate condo fire as arson

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Police are looking for leads after responding to a fire at the Cedar Creek Condominiums that may have been intentionally set.

That fire was reported from one of the condo buildings on Cedar Street around 2:15 p.m. Monday afternoon. Myrtle Beach Police responded to assist fire crews with traffic control but remained on scene after investigators located the source of the fire.

Police respond to local hotel more than 50 times so far in 2013

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach Police have responded to the Polynesian Beach and Golf Resort 59 times this year, and more than half of those calls were for crime-related incidences.

Two years ago, the Polynesian was on the city's nuisance list due to police responding to a high number of calls. The hotel complied with the Myrtle Beach Police Department's requests, one of which was additional security cameras on the property, and the hotel was removed from the nuisance list.

Myrtle Beach celebrates National Travel and Tourism Week

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce
and Convention and Visitors Bureau joins hundreds of cities, states and
businesses across the county to celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week.

A news release from the MBACC and CVB states that the
celebration is set to continue through May 12, and this year marks the 30th
annual National Travel and Tourism Week.

MBACC is celebrating the nearly 15 million tourists that
visit the Myrtle Beach area yearly with activities and promotions for everyone
visiting the Grand Strand.

Myrtle Beach a top city for births outside marriage, census study shows

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A new report from the U.S. Census Bureau found that the Myrtle Beach metropolitan area is number four in the country for percentage of unmarried mothers aged 15 to 50.

The report, taken from 2011 census data, shows that 67.4 percent of births in Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, and Conway happened outside of marriage, compared to the national average of 35.7 percent.
